2008 CookOff Results

Of the fifteen teams competing, six were from the Columbus area including Double D Cookers (David Wiggs), The Pit Crew (Scott Pettigrew), TCB Cookers (Kenneth Nelson), Kick Ash Kookers (Richard Laughlin), SPD Cookers (John Walley),and Henry and The Freeloaders(Henry Schneider).

Competition was held in five categories.
First place in open beans paid out 50% of the jackpot. Double D Cookers won the first place for beans, The Pit Crew took second and TCB Cookers took third.  The second open category was Cookers Choice. This category allowed cookers to present an entrée, other than the three competition meats for judging. Rottenwood Cookers of Katy took first place. Head cook was Frank Bittner. $150 was awarded to first place. Brisket Cases of Alvin, Tx took second place and R&B Cooker of Katy took third place.

Results from the three main categories are as follows:
First place chicken was awarded to Henry and the Freeloaders. Second place chicken went to Guzzlin’ Gourmet of Rosenberg and P D A C of Bellville took third place.
First place pork spare ribs was taken by Double D Cookers. Second place went to R & B Cookers and third place was awarded to Henry and the Freeloaders.
First place brisket was won by R & B Cookers. Rotten Wood Cookers took second place and Guzzlin’ Gourmets took third place.
Second runner-up to Overall Cooker was Gene’s Country Cookers of Austin. First runner up was Henry and the Freeloaders.

R & B Cooker (Steve Edwards) swept Overall Cooker winning the Calcutta jackpot, the patio swing donated by the June Cook-Off Triad, a smoker, donated by Brookshire Bros of Columbus and a gift basket of Jack Daniels sauces, a Columbus Cook Book and gift card to HEB, donated by the June Cook-off Triad and Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the FFA Chapter trip to State Convention this year.
